Plants and zombies have been a winning combination - but when you need a break from defending your home from unending zombie hordes whose main weakness is the natural flora, what do you do? GAMEPLAY SUMMARY
Planet Plants is the setting for the web-based game, Plant vs. Undead (PVU). This game takes us to a world where animals and plants live in harmony. A weird disease brought to the globe by meteorites altered everything and turned the animals into zombies (Undead). That said, these animals are now the undead that tries to kill the Mother Tree. Thankfully, the flora of the planet mutated giving them special abilities and powers to fight back.
The core gameplay consists of tower defense in the typical mobile format. You have an army of plants, beginning with 6 freebies and expanding from there with plants that are randomized NFTs which require an investment — either monetary or time-based – to acquire. There are currently three different game modes you can choose to play from:
- PvE- You'll find yourself in a forest. The Mother Tree, which you must defend, is on the left, while the undead — turtles, snails, butterflies, and wolves — are approaching from the right. There will be grids where you can place your plants. Once planted, these plants will automatically defend the Mother Tree without your involvement. They will unleash their particular abilities, dealing damage according to their attributes.
- PvP- This has the same gameplay. However, you must summon the zombie monsters you wish to send against your opponent which adds an additional strategic layer. It is vital to understand that when playing in PvP mode, you employ a clone of your NFT plants instead of your actual valuable NFT.
- Farming- Plant VS. Undead allows you to become a gardener. You will be given a personal piece of land to cultivate and gather Light Energy (LE). LE materials can be gathered and exchanged for PVU Tokens, or they can be used to purchase random seeds to cultivate and win a lottery NFT plant.
TOKENOMICS
The PVU token is the official in-game currency of Plant vs. Undead which can be used to purchase seeds and plants from the marketplace. PVU tokens can also be traded or sent as gifts to other players through the chat feature. This token is used as rewards in all the modes available in Plant vs Undead.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
Plant VS Undead (PVU) is a clone of Plants VS Zombies (PvZ). Smartphone users who have played Plants VS. Zombies (or any of its other versions) will be able to adjust to Plants VS Undead with relative ease, as both games employ a similar idea. This game may not be innovative but it’s still fun. The rising threat and constant micromanagement of your defense strategy is sufficient enough to keep your attention. The interface is also reasonably easy to follow.
The linear gameplay progression makes it easy for tower defense games to feel old; a game's design and story must perform a lot of heavy lifting if the entire experience is to feel fresh. However, the major problem with Plant vs. Undead is that it lacks creative concepts. Most likely, you already knew that from the name. It does not only borrow Plants VS Zombies’ genre but also its aesthetic since it also has this comical art.
As of now, Plant VS Undead is getting less and less engagement from social media. This might be due to the phishing attack that happened last June 2022 that took away a large volume of PVU tokens. With this issue and the large token dumping of PVU from players, you can find fun in this game especially if you’re already a fan of Plants VS Zombies but don’t expect to see large earnings from it anytime soon.
